There are many websites for Taiji (alternatively T'ai Chi, Taijiquan or T'ai Chi Ch'uan). At these sites usually one finds a "history" of T'ai Chi in one of its many (usually semi-mythological) variants as well as information promoting the classes which the specific club represented offers to the general public. The history of Taijiquan can be thoroughly explored through any number of these sites (See the links; Peter Lim's site is particularly informative.). Other sites offer a good deal of "how-to" information, sometimes stylistically or ideologically slanted to suit a particular viewpoint. The purpose of this site is a bit different in that it is intended simply to share with you a little of our love for the art, as well as communicate certain aspects of our actual day-to-day experience. Cold Mountain is a very small outfit and we are really not even in a position to benefit much from publicity! But we enjoy what we are doing and hope that you enjoy this brief look into our activities. The Applied Philosophy: Taiji has three classical and two modern functions. The modern functions are those of Taiji as a contact sport and as a competitive art form; both of these functions are on display at almost any significant Chinese martial arts tournament. While these two latter-day aspects of Taiji are responsible for drawing many to the practice of the art, it nevertheless should never be forgotten that its essence resides in its classical functions: Self Defense, Health Maintenance and Therapy, and Spiritual Training and Meditation.
